Some of my favorite lessons include:
Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap … And Others Don’t by Jim Collins
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as it presented eye-opening leadership and management findings that have since helped me in my own business practices.
This book explores the universal distinguishing characteristics that help a company to go from good to great.
Some of my favorite lessons include:
• The Stockdale Paradox which explains that you must confront the brutal reality of your situation and have faith that you will prevail in the end.
• The Hedgehog Concept which explains that companies that excel uncover what they do best and stick to it. They think about what they can do best, what they are passionate about and what is profitable, and they embrace it.
Jim Collins’ research in Good to Great is very compelling. I ended up reading the book in one sitting! It’s an easy read and there are many fascinating case studies that help illustrate Collins’ core concepts.
This book is definitely for you if you are in a position of leadership and are looking to understand why companies, organizations and even individuals achieve greatness.
